The Clue of the Screeching Owl is the 41st book in The Hardy Boys series. It was first published in 1962 by Grosset & Dunlap.

Plot summary

When dogs and people start to disappear, three young boys by the name of Frank Hardy, Joe Hardy, and Chet Morton hear screeches and screams in the night. When they arrive at Captain McGuire’s cabin at Black Hollow, they come to find him missing. They start to search for him throughout the woods and they only find clues such as, a flashlight, scraps of bright cloth, and two empty gun shells. The neighbor of Captain McGuire, Mr. Donner, thinks that the screams and screeches are from the witch who walks around Black Hollow at night seeking revenge. When the Hardy Boys decide to get a puppy, they had no idea it would lead them to the solution.
